Samsung recently started testing Google’s latest operating system, Android 16, on its Galaxy S25 mobiles, and now it seems that the South Korean tech giant has set a deadline for launching Android 16 on the first Galaxy handsets.
According to an exclusive from SamMobile, Samsung is planning to launch the new Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 foldable phones with Android 16 and One UI 8 pre-installed. Android 16 is due to launch on Google’s own Pixel phones in early June, and Samsung usually launches its foldable phones at the end of July.
You can find out everything you need to know about Android 16, which has just entered its third beta, in our dedicated article.
The quick release of Android 16 could be Samsung’s way of making up for all the trouble it had with Android 15 and One UI 7, which only starts rolling out on older Galaxy phones today.
Built on top of Android 15, One UI 7 has a fresh new look, redesigned widgets, a split notification menu and various AI enhancements. The Now Bar provides real-time updates from the lock screen, including information on the music you’re listening to and your fitness progress.
New Galaxy AI features include AI Select, which provides contextual AI assistance based on what you’re doing at the time. If you’re watching a video, for example, it could suggest saving that video as a GIF. Writing Assist, meanwhile, will summarise or format text, while Audio Eraser lets you edit out annoying sounds from your videos.
Here’s the full list of older Samsung devices that have been confirmed to receive One UI 7: Galaxy S24 series (including Galaxy S24 FE), Galaxy S23 series (including Galaxy S23 FE), Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Tab S10 series, Galaxy Tab S9 series.
